Runner's Knee
Runner's knee aka Chondromalacia Patella is a condition that results from the wearing down of the cartilage underneath the kneecap. The most common cause of this condition is abnormal lateral gliding of the patella on the knee. This abnormal gliding will cause irritation and pain usually results. If the condition becomes chronic then the cartilage will using began to degrade and degenerate. Treatment involves assessing the thigh musculature, ITB and other knee structures to determine which forces are causing the kneecap to track abnormally. Active Release Techniques® (ART®) has proven to be very effective in diagnosing and treating Runner's Knee.
